More than 50% of
the 25 million visitors to the Park enter through Grand Army Plaza
at 59th street and 5th Ave to access this feature-rich area of
the park. Highlights of this tour will include:
|
Central
Park Pond
Park designers Olmsted and Vaux cleverly submerged this
beautifully landscaped refuge far below the noisy street
level of 59th street to provide an immediate escape from
the hustle and bustle of the city stress. As such, it remains
a favorite lunchtime escape for city workers, and a romantic
backdrop for skaters of nearby Wollman rink. The Pond was
beautifully restored in 2002.

Central
Park Zoo
A park favorite since it's creation in 1871, this 3rd rendition
is a 5.5 acre cage-less home to 450 animals of over 100
species including polar bears, red pandas, penguins, piranhas,
and Gila monsters, to name a few.
|
|
Balto
Park officials claim directions to this popular monument to
the hero sled dog and Hollywood star is the second most frequently
asked question after the location to the nearest bathroom. |
 |
|
The Mall
The only formally designed element of the park where man
was to take precedent over nature. This elegant promenade
is home to the "Literary Walk" and to one of the
largest stand of stately American Elms left in this country.
|
|
|
Sheep Meadow
Originally designed as a military parade ground but actual
work place of the NYC Shepard until 1934, this famous Hollywood
back lot also served as NY's premier place of protest, but
today is the city's favorite place to work on their tan
beneath a breathtaking skyscape.

Bethesda
Fountain & Terrace
The Heart of the Park. Vaux and Mould's architectural masterpiece
is a favorite shoot of fashion designers and home to the beautiful
Angel of the Waters fountain- the most photographed element
of the park. Stunning in grace and design, a favorite haunt
of locals!
